How to inspect a used car for purchase and avoid getting an accidented vehicle?
By measuring the paint thickness, Elcometer 311 identifies hidden rework, not often found in public or commercial condition reports. Quickly assess impact damage, respray, and re-filled body panels and avoid horror stories like this one. There are some basic rules on how to inspect cars for hidden damage, but they are not a match for an in-depth analysis provided by Elcometer 311.

Assessing the overall condition of the paintwork
Unlike other gauges, the new Elcometer 311 displays the key statistical values used to assess the overall condition of the paintwork – such as the number of readings, average coating thickness, and the lowest paint thickness, etc., it also has the unique Elcometer Index Value.
The Elcometer Index Value provides inspectors with a single number that illustrates the vehicle’s overall paint condition and establishes if any previous paintwork has been undertaken. This quantifiable number determines the extent of any rework & the overall quality of the vehicle. The higher the Elcometer Index Value the more severe the previous paintwork condition.
Complies with: ISO 2808, ISO 2808-7C, ISO 2808-7D, ISO 2808-12A, ISO 2808-11B, ASTM E376, JIS K 5600-1-7, AS/NZS 1580.108.1
And if you are working with your own inspection app, the new Elcometer 311 has Bluetooth® – allowing all the measurements to seamlessly pass to your Android™ or Apple® mobile device in real-time.

QUICK TIP:
How to take a reading with Elcometer 311:
1. Whilst holding the gauge perpendicular, gently place the probe onto the surface.
• The reading may be inaccurate if the probe is not held flat against the surface.
2. The coating thickness is shown on the display.
• ‘>500µm’ (‘>20mils’) indicates a reading outside the gauge range.
3. For subsequent readings, lift the probe off and then replace it on to the coated surface.
The Elcometer 311 Model T calculates and displays statistical values as each reading is taken, see Section 6 ‘Statistics’ on page 6 for details.
